Why Traditional Leadership Advice Is Keeping You Stuck (And What to Do Instead)

HAPPY Sunday, Achiever! 🙌

Most leadership advice still emphasises that success begins by managing others more effectively. Most Leadership training teaches you what you should do.

Leadership that only focuses on others will eventually break you.

Take Rachel, a senior leader I recently worked with.
On the outside, she was absolutely crushing it! She had it all together — back-to-back meetings, task lists crushed, team targets hit.

But inside?

Rachel felt exhausted, disconnected, and overwhelmed. Running on a treadmill, someone else had set the speed on.

She was leading from the outside in — trying to control everything around her, while neglecting the one thing she had true power over: herself.

The result?

Constant firefighting. Shallow trust. And a growing feeling that no matter how much she achieved, it was never enough.

It sounds like she is on the slippery slope towards burnout, with a hint of impostor syndrome emerging, and perfectionism beginning to take hold.

Leadership that lasts begins within — with your energy, emotional regulation, and clarity. It's not about perfect performance; it's about powerful presence.

It’s about authentic influence — building real momentum by mastering your own clarity, energy, and emotional regulation first.

🔥 Where Are You Leading From?

Leading from the Outside In: You react to problems faster than you reflect on them. You rely on positional power instead of personal connection. You create results — but at the cost of trust, energy, and sustainability. Leading from the Inside Out: You ground yourself before you engage others. You build trust through everyday micro-moments, not grand gestures. You influence outcomes while maintaining your wellbeing and authenticity.

In short: when you feel emotionally safe, you create emotional safety around you.
