Progress Beats Perfection Every Time
HAPPY Monday, Achiever!
In a world that often glorifies flawless outcomes, perfectionism can seem like the ultimate badge of honor. But here’s the truth: perfectionism doesn’t drive progress—it stalls it. Striving for perfect results creates a mental chokehold, where fear of failure and self-doubt silently kill momentum. Let’s challenge this narrative together because progress, even imperfect progress, beats perfection every time.
Why Perfectionism Kills Momentum
Perfectionism often masquerades as ambition. However, it’s rooted in fear—fear of judgment, failure, or not being enough. When leaders and high achievers focus on perfect execution, they delay decisions, avoid risks, and miss valuable opportunities for growth. This not only stalls progress, but leads to frustration that impacts relationships - in particular - relational trust.
The irony?
Inaction is far more detrimental than imperfection.
True progress comes from the courage to take small, imperfect steps that compound into meaningful achievements.
Where are you avoiding decisions and not taking action? and how is that impacting on those you lead?
Use the 1% Progress Rule
As James Clear - the master of atomic habits says -the typical approach to self-improvement is to set a large goal, then try to take big leaps in order to accomplish the goal in as little time as possible. While this may sound good in theory, it often ends in burnout, frustration, and failure. Instead, we should focus on continuous improvement by slowly and slightly adjusting our normal everyday habits and behaviors.
It is so easy to dismiss the value of making slightly better decisions on a daily basis. Getting onw percent better isn’t going to make headlines.
There is one thing about it though: it works.
